Difference Between Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and Karate

Almost every martial art has particular things in common. They strengthen your body and sharpen your mind. They teach perseverance, respect, dedication, and self-discipline. Aside from that, you can use all of them to get out of dangerous situations while lowering the risk to you and those whom you might be defending.

Jiu-jitsu, MMA, and Karate are all well-known names whenever it comes to public recognition. And though a regular non-student has seen them on movies and television, they perhaps do not know the difference between them.

Today, we are going to talk about the differences between these martial arts Washington

Jiu-Jitsu

Jiu-jitsu, also known as Jujutsu, is a form of martial arts made to enable an unarmed defender to defeat an armed enemy. You can translate the name as “mild art”. Of course, this makes a lot of sense since jiu-jitsu methods are made to utilize the force of an opponent against them. Jiu-jitsu is mainly a grappling art. It uses joint locks, throws, and pins.

From the most popular BJJ (Brazilian jiu-jitsu) to judo, there is a huge range of derivatives and forms of jiu-jitsu in practice. So, if you want to learn to defend yourself in a gentle way, jiu-jitsu might be the one for you.

MMA

MMA is just a short term for Mixed Martial Arts. From the name itself, this full-contact style isn’t a martial art. Instead, it is a mixture of a lot of various martial art forms to create a single art form.

Though a huge range of martial arts techniques is allowed, it should be known that BJJ students have a tendency to dominate inside the MMA stage, also known as the Octagon. Also, you should keep in mind that a lot of popular MMA fighters train in a couple of disciplines. This includes Muay Thai, Boxing, Judo, and wrestling.

Karate

Karate is one form of martial arts that is extremely well-known. For those who don’t know, this martial art style originated in Okinawa, Japan. The aim of this style concentrates mostly on strikes delivered through the knees, elbows, feet, and hands. However, a couple of forms nowadays also integrate grappling and throws.

Karate became extremely popular in the west due to the several famous martial arts films of the 70s and the 60s. That’s why a lot of students from the west prefer learning karate over other forms of martial arts. But, you will be greatly disappointed if you expect that you’ll earn a black belt right away and become the best fighter in the world. If you want to become a master of karate, you’ve got to invest a lot of time and effort.

What’s The Best?

It isn’t possible to declare any particular martial art as the best. Of course, individuals learn martial arts for various reasons. Some of them train for physical fitness. Others want to compete. Some want to learn how to defend themselves. And finally, some just enjoy the camaraderie. No matter your reason, it’s best to choose a martial art that suits your preferences.
